The J2C extension is used to signify JPEG 2000 code stream files. JPEG 2000 code stream files are a compressed bitmap image format that employs the JPEG 2000 compression algorithm. J2C files are similar to the more commonly known JPEG image format, but the JPEG 2000 process is more modern and efficient. The JPEG 2000 code stream algorithm is applied to raw image files to compress them and they are then saved as J2C files. J2C files are compatible with some image editing software, provided they are equipped with the appropriate plug-in. J2C files can be edited with the appropriate software.
